The Pedagogy of the Four Islamic Jurists (Aima Arba’) in interpretation of rulings

Abstract

 The first three centuries of the Islamic Calendar is considered the Era of Knowledge in the Islamic History which the Prophet of Islam (s.w.a) has regarded the best and trustworthy period. Going through the Islamic History ،it becomes clear that the people of that time were reliable, honest and serious in transferring the knowledge with timely available sources. We can observe the two prominent groups who contributed in editing and interpreting of the Islamic Sciences i.e. The Fuqaha and Muhadissein. The former made efforts to derive the principles and rulings from Quran and Sunnah. The later helped in protecting the narrations (Hadith) of the Holy Prophet (s.a.w).Among them, four have prominent position. They are, Abu Hanifa, Imam Malik, Imam Shafie and Imam Ahmad. Every one of them established an inclusive school of thought and the people almost in the world preferred to follow their interpretations.These four Jurists were of exceptional status with respect to their approach and capacity of learning. Every one developed a distinctive way of thinking and observation which afterwards paved the path to comprehend the rulings easily.In this article, the pedagogical approaches of these four prominent Islamic Jurists have been elaborated with special reference to the contemporary ways of learning.
