A Critical Analysis of the Lectures of Allamah Shams al Haq Afghani (Muhazarat Afghani) about the Quranic Sciences

Abstract

The province of Khyber Pakhtunkhwa is considered as a religious-scholars generating province in Pakistan. The late Allama Shams Ul Haq Afghani belonged to district Charsadda, situated in the KP province. He was a graduate of the renowned religious institution Darululoom Deoband (India). He had vast contributions to the scholarly knowledge and religious understandings. He remained the minister of education and judiciary at the state of Qilat in Baluchistan. He transformed the Judiciary system of the state according to Islamic principles. He taught as a senior teacher in many institutes in Pakistan and served as a Vice-Chancellor of Jamia Islamia Bahawalpur as well. He was honoured with Sitara-e-Imtiaz (The third highest civilian award in Pakistan) by the government of Pakistan while awarded an honorary PhD degree by the University of Peshawar for his scholarly contributions.  Allama Shams ul Haq Afghani not only wrote many valuable books but his numerous lectures are considered to be the gems of knowledge, too. In this article, a critical evaluation of his lectures about Quranic discussions has been explored. This paper highlights and presents the methodological analysis of his lectures about exegesis and inimitability of the Quran. This study will showcase the important scholarly points discussed in his lectures which will be a scholarly addition in the field of Quranic studies.
