Abstract

Zakat is an essential part of Islamic financial system and provides a system of supporting and empowering the financially challenged segments of the society. The details regarding nisab, masarif are elaborated by scholars in details. However, in the new era different questions regarding various aspects of zakat are being asked. Maulana Gohar Rehman was a great scholar of his time and besides his valuable contributions in tafseer and Hadith, he had deep understanding of fiqh. It was the trust of public that they used to send him questions for seeking shariah guidance and asked for Fatawa regarding present day issues. Maulana Gohar Rehman had answered a number of such questions and has published them in his fatawa “Tafheem Ul Masail”. This article discusses his approach in giving fatawa and responding to questions related to zakat and some of his answers are briefly mentioned to understand his solutions to current day concerns regarding zakat.
