An Academic Review of the Meaning of “Sirat al- Mustaqeem” in the Light of the Holy Qur’an

Abstract

Disagreement and grouping (Schism) will continue to exist in this Umma’h and history is a witness to this fact and the sayings of the holy prophet (SAW)  also bear out the truth, so people found disagreement in beliefs and ideologies as they did in political life. One of the reasons for this schism or difference of opinion was that different people defined “the “Sirat al- Mustaqeem”-the straight path- according to their own understandings. As a result, sects like Shia, Murjea, Khwarij etc appeared in the era of the pious Caliphs. With the passage of time, more and more groups came in to existence. Even today, every Islamic group claims to be on the true path of “Sirat al- Mustaqeem”and declares other misguided. Consequently,  the Islamic society become a victim of schism or grouping, so an effort has been made in this article to explain the meaning of “Sirat al- Mustaqeem” academically and in on analytical style in the light of the holy Qur’an.
